Philip Griffin has many years experience playing plucked string instruments from the Mediterranean, Middle East and Balkans.
He has twice been a finalist in the World Music category of the ARIA awards, most recently as part of trio East of West with their album Moving Home on which he plays oud and laouto. He has played and recorded with Ross Daly, including concerts at Melbourne and Perth Festivals and a season of Trojan Women for State Theatre of South Australia, for which they co-wrote the music. His longest standing musical collaboration, one that has lasted more than 40 years, is with Linsey Pollak, with whom he has performed in a plethora of lineups and configurations across a wide range of musical genres. The latest iteration of this relationship is Gosti, in which Griffin and Pollak are joined by another long-term collaborator, virtuoso percussionist Tunji Beier. Philip and Tunji are also members of Aaron Brown's Early Modern. |
