Jia-Peng Yeung, baritone, is a recent graduate from The University of Queensland's Bachelor of Music (Honors Class I) in 2021 under the tutelage of Dr. Shaun Brown. In 2022, Jia-Peng was the 2022 winner of the Open Vocal section of the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition and was an invited Artist to the 2022 Lisa Gasteen National Program double bill of Lortzing's Die Opernprobe and Schubert's Der häusliche Krieg. Jia-Peng was both the 2021 winner of the UQ Ethel Osbourne Prize for Voice and the UQ Margret Nickson Prize for Voice and Piano. In the same year, he was also selected to participate in the highly selective Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program.
Jia-Peng has been featured as a soloist in several performances, including Haydn’s Creation, Faure’s Requiem, Vaugh Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with Queensland University Musical Society, Britten’s Hymn to St Cecilia, Charpentier’s Te Deum and Mozart’s Missa Brevis in B flat with UQ Chorale, UQ Chamber Singers, and UQ Singers. He has also been featured in the UQ School of Music Lunchtime Concert series as a soloist and with the UQ Singers and UQ Chamber Singers. He has performed in operatic roles such as Martin and Ein Offizier in the Lisa Gasteen’s National Opera Program’s double bill of Albert Lortzing’s Die Opernprobe and Schubert’s Der häusliche Krieg, Simone at the Cuskelly Sumer School Opera Program and the University of Queensland production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, as well as number operatic excerpts as a part of his studies in the UQ Singers Opera Scenes including Offenbach’s Les Contes d'Hoffman as Dr. Miracle, Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto as Counte Graf, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro as Figaro, Britten’s Billy Budd as Claggart and Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress as Nick Shadow, among many other chorus roles in West Side Story, Don Giovanni and Cendrillon.
